Two Steps to Clear Your Mind and Boost Your Edge

The more attention you have available, the greater your happiness, confidence and success. But in today’s fast-moving world, your attention is constantly pulled in a dozen directions at once.

L. Ron Hubbard discovered several self-improvement exercises you can do anytime, anywhere, to bring your focus back. One of them is covered in the “How to Look Younger and Act Younger.” Here’s another one.

This success tip is so simple you can learn it in seconds, yet powerful enough to clear mental clutter and sharpen your focus in minutes.

“Feel Freer”

“Pick out two similar objects. Then find as many differences between them as possible.”

“Now pick out two objects and see where they are in relation to each other and your body.”

“Use these two steps over and over. You will feel freer and see better.” – L. Ron Hubbard

How This Exercise Works

At first glance, this exercise may seem too simple to work, but the improvement to your awareness and feelings can be significant.

By closely examining the world around you, identifying differences, and noticing their relationships in space, you increase your ability to observe and be in present time.

For Example

1. You look around and decide to use two pens on your desk.

2. You find the differences.

You say to yourself, “One is blue, one is black. One has a scratch, the other is new. The ink is lower in one of them. One of them feels heavier. Ha! I just felt a little lift – like my mind shifted into a higher gear. I’ll try step two now.”

3. You pick out your coffee mug and your computer mouse.

You think, “OK, these two objects are on my desk about three feet apart. The mouse is about a foot from my head and the mug is two feet to the left of my body. Hmmm, I kind of feel a connection here. Interesting feeling – like waking up from autopilot!”

4. You then do the first step again using two similar spoons. You notice their weights, their color differences, even how they taste. Your mood gets a nice boost.

5. Then you pick two pieces of furniture. You examine how they are positioned with each other and with your body. You feel more in present time.

6. You say to yourself, “Wow, that actually works! I’ll do this again tomorrow. I’m ready to get busy!”

Two More Examples

1. While stuck in traffic waiting for cars to move. You find differences between two similar cars in front of you. And then you observe the locations between your body and your car doors. You go back and forth until you stop complaining and start enjoying the moment.

2. While taking a walk on a sunny afternoon, you find differences between two trees or two clouds. You notice location relationships between two buildings and your body. You continue the two steps until your walk becomes the best part of your day.

Four Benefits of Using This Exercise

1. Sharpen Your Observation Skills – You start noticing small details others miss, and this makes you quicker, sharper and better at making decisions. For example, you can tell when a partner is hiding an important fact.

2. Reduce Stress and Anxiety – You stop overthinking to simply experiencing the world around you. You earn a feeling of peaceful calm. No drugs required.

3. Boost People Skills – You catch subtle cues in conversations which makes you a better listener. You understand people better than ever before. For example, someone makes a subtle joke and you get it, and laugh.

4. Increased Creativity – Sharper awareness of your environment helps you connect ideas and see fresh solutions that others miss. For example, you suddenly realize how you can double your income.

Recommendation

Prove it to yourself.

1. For the next seven days, set aside a few minutes each day to do this two-step exercise.

2. Each time, make a short note to record what happened.

3. At the end of the week, review your improvements.

Give it a try, right now. Pick two similar objects and notice the differences. Notice the locations of two objects and your body. Do this until you get one of the benefits.

And have a better day!
